Relative Clauses (Defining and Non-defining)

Las cláusulas relativas se utilizan para dar información adicional sobre un sustantivo en la oración. Pueden ser cláusulas definitorias (defining relative clauses) o cláusulas no definitorias (non-defining relative clauses).

Las cláusulas definitorias identifican o especifican al sustantivo al que se refieren, por lo tanto, no se separan con comas del resto de la oración.

Ejemplos de cláusulas definitorias:

The book that I bought yesterday is very interesting. (El libro que compré ayer es muy interesante.)
The girl who lives next door is my best friend. (La chica que vive al lado es mi mejor amiga.)
This is the house where I grew up. (Esta es la casa donde crecí.)

Por otro lado, las cláusulas no definitorias añaden información adicional pero no identifican al sustantivo, por lo tanto, se separan con comas del resto de la oración.
